Are these compatable in the same tank? Only plan on having one glofish for now.

Hello all,
I have a 100L tank with 80L (20G) water in it. I was planning on 2 archers and a scat and then eventually transferring some of the occupants if not all to a larger tank (300L / 80G) in about 6 months time.
Is this reasonable? I would imagine it is a decent volume for what will be smallish fish for the next few months?

I understand fish lack the ability to regulate body temperature but how important is overall temperature.
I have a new setup that has been staying around 87-89 degrees typically. Every once in a while it hits 90 and I change water to lower it.
The tank is stocked with invertes and african cichlids.
Should I be looking for a chiller?
And when I reference "importance" I mean 2-4 degree swings or running at the higher side of suggested temps

I was looking into setting up a 55 with some Longears from Zimmerman, but I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with them digging up plants?

Hello all -
The title says it all! How do I get good photos? I have a Canon Elph digital camera that works well under most circumstances. My tank is a 54 gallon bowfront corner.
When I take pics, I can sometimes put the camera right up on the glass, but then the autofocus doesn't always focus on what I want. I can see the tiny orange beam from it if the lights are down, but it usually hits the bg instead of the fish.
With the flash on , I sometimes just get a big flare. If I take it back a few inches, I can see a glare on the curvature of the tank.
How do you guys get these clear pics?? help :)

Okay, so I'm fed up with my sand substrate and just purchased 7 bags of Eco-Complete for my 90 gallon tank (48x18x24).
Here's what I have:
2x t5ho 54w 12000k and 2x t5ho 54w giesemann 6000 midday
co2 regulator with tom barr's DIY reactor
Aqua Clear 110 hang over filter
Fertz = EI method
What I want to plant/have:
I basically just want a good carpet in the tank. Im thinking about using HC AND/or Hairgrass. And that's basically it. No larger plants in the background, just a carpet!!!
I need to know how many pots of (HC/hairgrass) I need to cover the tank in HC (center only) and Hairgrass (all over).
Help! :)

This male came to me pale and white. After a week, he's looking very much like a green swordtail. Not bad for 50 cents. So don't judge a fish by it's place in the LFS. Or something.

Hey guys I'm new to the forums, just got into fish a few months ago, decided to get a 70 gallon tank used with all the equipment I'll list below. The tank is roughly 1.5ft deep 3ft wide and 2.5ft tall (rough estimate). Anyways I'm trying to decide how to decorate it and how many fish i can get.
So my plans are
- Millenium 3000 hang on back filter in the left corner
- 400w heater (forgot the brand) in the bottom right corner against the back
- A piece of driftwood about 8 inches tall and a foot long diagonally placed in the left corner
- A wall bubbler about a foot long diagonally in the right corner
- A pile of river rocks about a foot high in the right corner over the bubbler. This will be combined with the heater for a cool effect that circulates heat as well (I'm assuming that works)
- 1 3 foot tall plant in the back left corner and a 1 foot plants in front of the rocks and the driftwood (all plastic)
I eventually plan on getting another filter don't know what type for the right top side.
I plan on putting 10-20 African Cichlids in the tank 2 rubber lipped plecos and a striped raphael cat fish.
Does this sound like a good setup? any tips appreciate the help thanks!

I was told by a LFS a long time ago that some dechlorinators/ammonia removers can affect the results of some ammonia tests. It was only supposed to be an issue if the test was done shortly after the use of the dechlor/NH3 remover. Is there any truth to this? In an established aquarium is it more common to get ammonia spikes than nitrite spikes? Got some strange readings on my most recent test.

What is the best treatment for hole in the head, i do weekly water changes, and put in stress coat when i do the water change. I have 3 Oscars in a 135gal. When I came back from vacation I noticed that one of my oscars head was half black. Didnt think a whole bunch about it til today, he has what looks like a hole in his head seemed to appear over night. I upped the temp, put in a lil aquarium salt, and also put so melafix in the tank this morning. What else can I do?
Here are the readings i got from the tank:
Nitrate 10
Nitrite between 0.5 & 1.0
Hardness 120
Alkanlinity 80
Ph 7.2
This was about 6 hours after adding melafix.
I am very sad. Do not want him to die.

I've done a bunch of research on DIY LED fixtures for reef tanks. (Alot of reading on this particular forum (
DIY LEDs - The write-up - Reef Central Online Community )) I have a 55G tank and I'm thinking about running the same setup as this guy.(About 48 LED's). According to his tests, he's getting between 100-300 par readings in his tank. I've heard that all the other lights, even cfl's, will produce more par readings than that(am I wrong on that?). I would love do try building that setup, but not if it won't be enough light. I plan on growing many corals, including many sps corals. So will this 48 LED setup be good for good coral growth/good health for everything else on my 55G? Or should I just stick to 50/50 cfl's? Also, this guy isn't running lenses on those LED's. What's a "good" par spectrum for a reef tank with soft AND hard corals? Thanks

i recently posted another thread in which i stated my specs
here are my specs
-55 gal...21hx48lx16w
-4x 55W T5HO..with poor reflectors...on for 11 hrs a day
-RM root tabs
-pressurized co2 at 60ppm (i have no fish or shrimp)
-ph between 6.8-7.4 (varies with co2)
-EI dosing
the general consensus is that i have way too much light..so ill use only half.
my question is how do i get rid of the white hairlike algae? besides cutting my light..what else do i do? and if i kept all the light, is there any way to get rid of the white hair algae..it looks almost like a fungus but with strands of hairy stuff. this is my first tank and its only been up and running since monday..i have some red camomba..limnolhilia ,javamoss and so far they are growing like crazy...maybe i should reduce the hrs the lights r on?

Im going to build a 3d background into the tank so that way i have a seperate shelf for my pbass and bichirs in the tank. ill post some more pics as soon as the glass and frame are done.
